“A arte de Meera Singh é uma síntese da sua personalidade, da sua força, das angústias. Os trabalhos podem ser comparados a um cristal, representam um encontro entre transparência, luminosidade e sofisticação”
José Roberto Moreira – Comissário e Galerista

Meera Singh nasceu na India, actualmente vive e trabalha em New Jersey, EUA.

“Like most people in this country, I lived in a state of political complacency until the horrific events of September 11, 2001. I was in New York City on that fateful morning and watched from the 40th floor windows of my office as the twin towers went down. I helplessly saw people jump to their deaths. I was deeply affected by what I saw. However, the political reaction, and the wars that followed were signs that even worse was to come. The war on terror has become reason to limit public dissent, push through personal agendas of power, and cause the suffering of millions of innocent people. It has awakened in me a sense of justice and tolerance and made me turn to art to express myself, art as both an outlet for my feelings and a way to sensitize others.
Art is a fundamental communicative medium across cultures. It transcends language. I come from India, a democracy where complexity and diversity has prepared me for empathy and tolerance. I have also spent the last twenty years as a communicator of corporate strategies, learning to understand and communicate a compelling story. I am I utilizing this experience to highlight important social issues through art.
Five years ago I returned to work in a medium that I have long loved glass (my major, before I switched to communications) to explore ways to address my profound discomfort with the direction that we are taking as a global society. My recent series of fused glass panels suggest an abstract human form telling a particular human story. I fuse pennies, wire and mesh; I use pulled lines of glass, glass powder and frit; I use text messages etched into glass to tell some of the forgotten stories. The text is taken from The Abu Ghraib Files, 279 photographs and 19 videos from the Armys internal investigation record, U.S. Army Report on Iraqi Prisoner Abuse, and other news articles about the treatment of inmates, the Bill of Rights and the Geneva Convention. I want to bring awareness and raise questions through my art.
Six years after viewing 9/11 from my office window and living with the images of that horror I am convinced that art can be a vehicle for affecting fundamental change” Meera Singh
